For much of my life, I would retreat inward whenever conflict arose. I call it “going into my turtle shell”—a nervous system response that once helped me feel safe. Over time, I’ve come to see that there’s nothing wrong with our nervous systems trying to protect us. They’re simply doing what they’re designed to do.
A Place to Feel is an homage to the turtle and a reminder that healing doesn’t come from judging our protective patterns, but from meeting them with compassion. When we give ourselves the space to feel the full range of our emotions, we no longer have to hide inside the shell. We can emerge with greater presence, express ourselves honestly, and meet one another from a place of openness instead of fear. For me, this piece is a reminder that our willingness to feel vulnerable is what allows us to discover a deeper inner strength.
